The Death Penalty Lottery (and Mississippi Prison Update)
Dear All,
Yesterday, the State of Alabama executed Nathaniel Woods, while Tennessee and Texas are gearing up for a whole series of executions. At the same time, Colorado is just inches away from abolishing capital punishment. Take a look at my latest blog post, “The Death Penalty Lottery,” which argues that justice shouldn’t be as arbitrary as throwing darts at a map. (Thanks, Raman Gill, for that one). You can read it here at: http://jessicahenryjustice.com/the-death-penalty-lottery/.
In more news, the death toll in Mississippi’s prisons has risen to twenty-four since December 29th, which means five more people have died since I posted about this just last week. (Here is the link to last week’s post: http://jessicahenryjustice.com/nineteen-prison-deaths-in-two-months/). That death toll is horrifying, and we need to keep saying so until Mississippi takes steps to improve its prison conditions.
As always. I love to hear from you. You can post your comments directly on the blog.
Thank for reading and take care,
Jessica Henry
