How to Fix a Drug Scandal

Looking for Your Next Binge-Watch?

Dear Friends,

When I learned that Netflix had a new docuseries, “How to Fix a Drug Scandal,” I was ready for my next binge-watch (a whole new activity for me in this time of social distancing). The docuseries focuses on the stunning misconduct of two forensic chemists, Annie Dookhan and Sonja Farak, whose stories also appear in my forthcoming book, “Smoke but No Fire, Convicting the Innocent of Crimes that Never Happened.” It turns out that when forensic scientists lie, innocent people suffer.

I’ve been following the Dookhan and Farak cases for years and figured maybe I’d learn a little more about what happened in Massachusetts or about the state of forensic science in general. What I got, instead, was something far more valuable that I wanted to share with you: “Binge Watching? What Netflix’s How to Fix a Drug Scandal Teaches Us About Criminal Justice Reform” at https://medium.com/@jhenryjustice/binge-watching-what-how-to-fix-a-drug-scandal-teaches-us-about-criminal-justice-reform-83c469a4e64?source=friends_link&sk=753fef3a246e680d49a9f595b36bf398.

After reading my piece on Medium, maybe you’ll watch the four-part docuseries, too. I’d love to hear what you think.

I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe. We are doing well here and are trying to be patient while we do our part to flatten the curve. I’m going to try and bake bread today. Wish me luck.

Take care,
Jessica
