Official Book Launch of Smoke but No Fire

Dear Friends,

This Sunday, September 20, at 6 pm is what I have dubbed the “official” book launch of Smoke but No Fire: Convicting the Innocent of Crimes that Never Happened at the amazing indie bookstore Watchung Booksellers. Even though the event is virtual, there’s something special about being here in my hometown of Montclair. The event is going to be moderated by one of my besties from law school, Raman Gill, a truly brilliant criminal defense lawyer down in Austin, Texas who also started the first mental health public defender office.

For local folks, the book is available for purchase right at the counter at Watchung Booksellers — so please shop local and pick up a copy. And for the really, really local folks, I’m having a masked, drive-by book signing on Sunday afternoon at my home. If you can stay for a socially-distanced chat, I’ll have some delicious Montclair-founded Ironbound hard cider and seltzer to share. Email me for more details about the book signing. The registration link for the book event is below, and advance registration is required.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks, with virtual presentations at the Indigent Defense Research Association, Microsoft PAC, and Programs with a Purpose through the Leadership Greater Washington. And thanks to everyone who came to the virtual book event at the Book Revue in Huntington, NY. It has been humbling and heartening to interact with so many people who care so deeply about criminal justice reform.

Wishing all of you a sweet and beautiful New Year! May it bring health, happiness, and strong leadership.

Thanks for all that you do!
Stay safe and well,
Jessica
